{"id":11179,"date":"2020-01-28T10:50:26","date_gmt":"2020-01-28T10:50:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=11179"},"modified":"2021-04-10T00:27:24","modified_gmt":"2021-04-10T00:27:24","slug":"revival-of-vinyls-in-the-2000s","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=11179","title":{"rendered":"Revival of vinyls in the 2000s"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wpb-content-wrapper\">[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]There may be a revival for vinyls, if recent sales are any indication.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Last year, just over a million vinyl records were sold, according to Meghan Avanzino, the vice-president of marketing at Nielsen Entertainment.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Nielsen Music\u2019s Year-End Music Report stated a 2.2. per cent increase in vinyl record sales from Jan. 4, 2019 to Jan. 2, 2020.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Simon-Peter Daley, the marketing manager at Precision Record Pressing, said that the vinyl pressing company has seen an increase in demand in the past 10 years for their services to turn music into precious works of physical art.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Clients have wanted more special colour effects, custom packaging and other customizations to make \u201cpurchasing a physical copy of an album more enticing than simply streaming it via the internet,\u201d Daley said.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]In this age of increased digitization, \u201cpeople are looking for a physical product they can own and keep as a permanent souvenir,\u201d Daley said, leading to a consistent increase of sales this past decade.[\/vc_column_text][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;80px&#8221;][vc_column_text]Greg Dee, a vinyl collector since the 1970s said, \u201cit&#8217;s mostly the sentimental aspect of hundreds of vinyl albums that I collected over my life that have meaning to me.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;11189&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<div class=\"perfect-pullquote vcard pullquote-align-full pullquote-border-placement-left\"><blockquote><p>\u201cPeople are always going to want to engage with other people in real life in a physical location,&#8221; Dee said, &#8220;and they&#8217;re always going to want to own something tangible to represent the music.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;11187&#8243; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_column_text]Natalie Stewart, vocal director at OneChurch.to, has a master degree in ethnomusicology; the study of music in society and culture, where she focused on subcultures.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]Stewart thinks that vinyl is not making a permanent comeback.[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]\u201cI believe the culture of vinyls will continue to lessen, and the cost of vinyl will continue to increase for the regular public, as the world becomes more and more digital and mindful of the environment and waste products,\u201d Stewart said.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;10px&#8221;][vc_column_text]Razmik Tchakmak owns Antikka &#8211; Cafe and Records, a vinyl cafe with specialty coffee and drinks.[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;20px&#8221;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;11184&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;11186&#8243; img_size=&#8221;medium&#8221; alignment=&#8221;center&#8221;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;50px&#8221;][vc_column_text]Tchakmak said he opened Antikka because vinyl \u201cperpetuates a sense of community, as well for people to sit and actually talk about music and art.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]\u201cVinyl has been the only thing that&#8217;s been constant throughout all changes of technology, so I don&#8217;t think it has changed much,&#8221; Tchakmak said, &#8220;I think it just stayed exactly where it needs to stay.\u201d[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;70px&#8221;][vc_column_text]Jana Park, a first-time customer at Antikka, said that nowadays, the younger generation is experiencing vinyl culture like the older generations, and it is being preserved through the passion for music.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_single_image image=&#8221;11191&#8243;
