{"id":18887,"date":"2018-10-09T21:00:45","date_gmt":"2018-10-09T21:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=18887"},"modified":"2024-03-12T23:14:24","modified_gmt":"2024-03-12T23:14:24","slug":"toronto-man-sentenced-to-10-years-in-prison-for-death-of-barrie-ont-woman","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=18887","title":{"rendered":"Toronto man sentenced to 10 years in prison for death of Barrie, Ont. woman"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>oronto resident James Garthwaite, aged 26, was sentenced to 10 years in prison today in Barrie, Ont. after pleading guilty to manslaughter for the death of Dana Camber last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In March 2017, Garthwaite accidentally shot and killed Camber in her apartment building on Kozlov Street in Barrie, Ont. with a sawed-off shotgun after she involuntarily became entangled in a confrontation between him and his drug dealer, John Nanibush, who lived in the same building.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u201cShe was, in that sense, an innocent bystander,\u201d said Justice Michelle Fuerst. \u201cMs. Camber had no involvement in the dealings between Mr. Garthwaite and Mr. Nanibush.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Garthwaite was on federal parole and had a firearm prohibition order at the time. He ultimately fled back to Toronto where he was arrested in April later that year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Justice Fuerst gave Garthwaite 16 months credit for his time spent in custody. He was the last of three men to be sentenced for Camber\u2019s death.
