No school has won more Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) championships than Humber College, who now holds an unparalleled 50 national titles.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Humber won its 50th championship on Nov.10 when the men\u2019s soccer team beat Coll\u00e8ge Ahuntsic in a hard fought 1-0 victory. This gained the men\u2019s soccer team a record seventh CCAA title.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>With seven national championships Humber now moves past Capilano University for the most national titles in CCAA men&#8217;s soccer history. The win also improves Humber\u2019s record to 7-1 in the championship game.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Humber\u2019s director of athletics Ray Chateau was thrilled about the achievement and believes it shows Humber\u2019s commitment to excellence.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"perfect-pullquote vcard pullquote-align-full pullquote-border-placement-left\"><blockquote><p>\u201c50 national championships have been achieved in virtually every sport we\u2019ve played in so it shows the breadth of sports we are involved in and the excellence we\u2019ve achieved across the board.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEverything from outstanding coaching, the quality of student athletes we have coming in, and the support we provide for our athletes to excel and be the best in the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Ten different athletic programs have won CCAA championships at Humber and Humber has won at least one CCAA title in 18 of the last 19 academic years.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Head coach of the men\u2019s soccer team Michael Aquino said the team showed excellent resilience and ability to bounce back from different obstacles this year.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis season probably more than ever we experienced a ton of injuries and had to use our full squad of 24 guys,\u201d Aquino said. \u201cA lot of guys got into our starting line-up and had to do the job we needed, the level of competitiveness was always there and that helped propel us through provincials and nationals.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>According to Aquino, the players were not aware that they could be winning Humber its 50th national title during the finals. However, some did know that they could potentially win a record seventh Canadian championship for the soccer program.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes it motivate you? Sure it does, is it in the back of you\u2019re mind? I\u2019m sure it is, but I don\u2019t think from a players perspective it changes the way you approach a game,\u201d said Aquino.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a coach these are some things we put on players to motivate them a bit more, at the end of the day though those numbers just add to the recognition of your success. But yeah I can say that when we found out it was a record 50th it was a pleasant surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Janeil Hoilett fourth year striker was named championship MVP for both the provincial and national tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hoilett said this year\u2019s success was hinged upon the teams constant desire to win and belief throughout the season.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWinning one title is hard but winning several really shows something about you,\u201d said Hoilett. \u201cYou have to be ready at every single moment and want to win no matter what happens to your team or on the field. It\u2019s that hunger and desire for greatness that sets the great players apart from the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Humber won its first CCAA title in men\u2019s basketball in 1991.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; It\u2019s official.
