{"id":8713,"date":"2019-11-23T06:54:03","date_gmt":"2019-11-23T06:54:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=8713"},"modified":"2020-04-01T22:19:02","modified_gmt":"2020-04-01T22:19:02","slug":"campus-eats-humbers-latest-sustainability-initiative-the-spot","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gh360.ca\/?p=8713","title":{"rendered":"Campus eats- Humber\u2019s latest sustainability initiative: \u2018The Spot\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Organic, sustainable, local and fresh- Humber&#8217;s newest eatery leaves plenty for students to chew on. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<span class=\"wpsdc-drop-cap\">T<\/span>ucked away in the corner of the first floor of the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation (CTI) building, Humber North\u2019s new caf\u00e9, <em>The Spot, <\/em>seems unassuming at first glance; however, the staff is hopeful that the eatery will lead sustainable and local food choices on campus.<\/p>\n<p>Manhar Kapoor, the manager of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/humber.ca\/staff\/sites\/default\/files\/Communique%20Sep%2024.PNG\">The Spot<\/a>,<\/em> said his mission is to run the caf\u00e8 in a more sustainable way- starting with a plan to remove as much plastic and paper waste as possible. According to Kapoor, the caf\u00e8 seats around 30 people.<\/p>\n<p>Quiet and intimate- Kapoor said it\u2019s the perfect place to grab a bite to eat, socialize or study. Students have the option to either dine-in using real cutlery or take their food out in biodegradable containers and recyclable glass-bottled beverages.<\/p>\n<p>He said the menu changes daily; <em>The Spot<\/em> offers a vegan, vegetarian and meat option to accommodate everyone\u2019s food preferences. Mehmi said nature is her biggest inspiration- she works with other like-minded individuals to educate others on different ways to live more eco-friendly lives. Mehmi said she was impressed with the concept behind Humber\u2019s new eatery and wants to see it being replicated at other schools.<\/p>\n<p>According to Mehmi, the biggest obstacle facing any movement is simply getting people to care. She said sustainability is about ensuring posterity, and that all generations of people are being affected- so she\u2019s unsure why people are choosing to ignore it.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><div class=\"perfect-pullquote vcard pullquote-align-full pullquote-border-placement-left\"><blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;We are not detached from the environment\u2026we are the environment.
