All University of Guelph-Humber and Humber College students living in the North Campus residence have been displaced after being forced to abruptly vacate the premises due to a break in the campus’s water main.

Student residents received an email at approximately 5 p.m. this evening alerting them to the ongoing issue and instructing them to leave campus within the next hour. Those who were not able to relocate in such short notice were transported by bus to hotel accommodations.

The entire campus is closed for the weekend – Saturday, February 2nd and Sunday, February 3rd – for repair work on the water main. In the meantime, there will be no running water available and all scheduled on-campus activities are cancelled. It is expected to reopen by Monday and student residents will be notified when they will be able to return.

These events follow an incident earlier this week regarding residence staff warning students of pipes bursting in rooms due to students leaving their windows open in freezing temperatures, displacing several students whose rooms and hallways were flooded with water. Student residents received an email reminding them to keep their windows closed and heaters on to prevent such incidents in the future.
