Clubs Day is an event run by IGNITE that took place on October 3rd with the purpose of showcasing the different clubs that students can join on campus.
The Sustainability Club and d’Luxe are two of the many new clubs this year.
The Sustainability Club wants students to come together to help the planet. “Sustainability is about doing the right thing, right now, without jeopardizing future generations,” said Fernando Matamoros, a representative from The Sustainability Club.
The club wants its members to learn lessons and apply them to their everyday life. “The ideas transfer, students will graduate from Humber, but they will take what they have learned from here, and they will take it to their business, to their house, to their families, to the people they care for. So, it will eventually transfer to a bigger picture,” said Matamoros.
Club d’Luxe is Humber’s first organization that caters to the plus-size experience. It aims to promote size acceptance, body diversity and inclusivity.
“It’s a lifestyle club, it started off as body acceptance for plus sized individuals, but we branched out. We deal with makeup, hair, fitness and stuff like that,” said Shade’ Thomas, the Vice President of d’Luxe.
Club d’Luxe is an open-space to discuss all things no matter the size, and as they say, where bigger is always better.
Being involved in extracurricular activities help enhance a student’s post-secondary experience. “I think it’s super important to get involved on campus outside of what you’re studying and just meet likeminded people and to follow your passion,” said Kristine Galvan, the Clubs & Volunteer Coordinator for IGNITE.
“Clubs Day is essentially created so that we can show off clubs and then inspire students to create their own if they can’t find something they like,” said Galvin.
There are many returning clubs that have been staples of the club community at Humber such as the Humber Dance Company and the Anime Club, but there are many notable new clubs that have been created.

The deadline to make a new club for the 2017/18 school year is in February of 2018.
